Bio 495 UNIT I Take-Home Exam (Due October 10th)
This exam is aimed at evaluating your knowledge of scientific methods, reading and interpreting research literature, library research, and writing/articulating your ideas and knowledge clearly. Most of the questions pertain to the articles posted on Moodle up until this point.
Refer to the posted review articles (and their citations if needed), as well as the other primary articles posted and discussed in class to answer the following questions

CALORIE AND FOOD RESTRICTION AND AGING:
Select ONE of the questions to answer in substantial detail (including researching additional material if needed,( 20 pt each), while giving a brief answer to three of the others (5 pt each).:
Discuss two different vertebrate models of aging and two different invertebrate models of aging. How have they been used in the study of the role of calorie restriction on aging? Explain an experimental design that has been used for each model.
Why are researchers interested in mitochondria with regard to the questions associated with calorie restriction and aging? Give an example of a hypothesis and how it has been tested by two different research groups.
Explain what ROS refers to and why it is of interest in the study of aging. Give examples of two different experimental approaches to evaluating/assaying the sources and amounts of ROS and two different hypotheses concerning how ROS can be modified.
