On August 25th, 2009 Dr. Sheri Fink published a paper entitled “Deadly Choices at Memorial”.
“Deadly Choices at Memorial” is a recollection of the event during and after the devastation of hurricane Katrina. Sheri Fink wrote an extremely descriptive article illustrating the event that happened inside Memorial Medical Center. She did extensive research for almost 4 years to accurately reencounter the facts of August 29th, 2005 and the days to follow. Two days after Katrina made landfall, the doctors at Memorial were faced with very difficult decisions: how to start evacuating, and who get priority. Right in the middle of a seemingly organized triaged evacuation, Dr. Ana Pou and her nursing staff was face with another dilemma, should patients with a Do Not Resuscitate be removed also.
