his is a paper of in which you use current newspaper and journal articles for information, and readings and lectures from the class for analysis, to analyze a major current issue or recent event in China.
You should identify a problem in current politics, such as
corruption, the building of a legal system, political dissent, environmental issues, labor protests, population problems, religion and politics, crime, economic difficulties, leadership conflicts, or any other issue of interest to you on which you can find material.
Your job will be:
1) First, BRIEFLY explain nature of the issue you have chosen;
2) Then, describe and discuss its relationship with current politics;
3) Last, use ideas, concepts, and themes from class readings and lectures to interpret how that problem may be related to the history, political culture, political institutions, and/or the political system in general of the country in which it is a current issue.
There is no need to consult any other readings besides the news media; your grade will depend more upon how well you can bring together things learned in the course and apply them to a current issue than it will depend upon doing new reading. It will also depend upon your use of news sources to describe the problem. Better, more complete research in the news media will, of course, be marked more highly.
