You
must decide which variables to use in your analysis.
The
country or country grouping assigned to you is provided in a separate
document on AUT Online, for this case it is IRELAND.
Your
task is to report on the factors that influence job satisfaction. In
particular, based on the country (or country grouping) you have been assigned
– IRELAND, you need to first restrict your sample to the individuals who
report how satisfied they are with their job – hint, this implies eliminating
those not employed and outside the working age population (the latter of
which is a common step taken in such analysis). Then find the average value
of job satisfaction for your reduced data sample. Then create a variable that
captures whether an individual is experiencing at or above average job
satisfaction versus below average job satisfaction. Use this constructed
dummy variable as the dependent variable of interest in your analysis.
Construct
a research-based paper using the following structure:
1)
Title (15 words maximum)
·
Make sure it is appropriate
2)
Abstract (100 words maximum)
·
Provide a brief overview of your paper
(10 marks in total for sections 1 and 2)
3)
Introduction (300 words maximum)
a)
Motivation for this paper
b)
Questions you seek to answer (hypotheses) – note these will be motivated by your
literature review
c)
The structure of the rest of your paper
(10 marks)
4)
Literature Review (500 words maximum)
·
A review of appropriate theoretical literature
(15 marks)
5)
Data (500 words maximum)
a)
Outline the explanatory variables you will employ, as
motivated by your literature review (Hint: take care with coding the
variables from European Values Study; remember to clean the data; consider 8-10 variables as a reasonable maximum
for explanatory variables to ensure simplicity of model)
b)
Describe and summarise your data
(15
marks)
6)
Methodology (150 words maximum)
·
Describe and justify the regression method you will be
utilising (include any appropriate diagnostic tests)
(10 marks)
7)
Discussion of your empirical results (750 words maximum)
a)
Clearly and thoroughly outline your results
b)
Reflect on whether the results are any good, and
whether they may be biased
c)
Give recommendations for further research (i.e. it
would have been useful to also collect data on x, y, z, or pursue alternative
lines of investigation because…)
(20 marks)
8)
Conclusion (450 words maximum)
·
Briefly summarise your task, method, results and
reflections
(10 marks)
9)
Appendix (10 pages maximum)
·
Include all relevant tables, graphs and regression
outputs (Make sure you refer to the relevant table / appendix page within
text)
(10 marks)
