I have posted PowerPoints (in PDF format) and a handout. These items show you many images of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque art. One of the PowerPoints has links to a podcast focused on Chartes Cathedral, and another PowerPoint has links to short video lectures by Dr. Jeanne Willette. The PowerPoints also contain some factual information, as does the handout. Between all of these and your textbook, there is more than enough visuals and information to help you start processing Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque art in Europe. Use these resources to help you answer the following questions (one sentence per question is fine):

1. Who are three important artists of the Early Renaissance in Italy?

2. Who are the three leading artists of the High Renaissance in Italy?

3. Who are three important non-Italian Renaissance artists, and what country/region were they from?

4. What is the connection between the Renaissance and Classical Art (ancient Greek and Roman art)?

5. What purpose does nudity serve in Renaissance art and how might it be connected to God/Christianity?

6. Compare and contrast Gothic and Renaissance art. What is similar, and what is different?

7. Why were Gothic churches so big? What was the goal of a Gothic church? What purpose did the magnificent stained glass windows serve?

8. What is neoplatonism and what does it have to do with the Renaissance?

9. What is the connection between banking/business and art in the Renaissance? Who was the leading family in Florence during the Renaissance and how did they affect the history of art?

10. What role did the guilds play in the Renaissance?

11. What are examples of Michelangelo’s sculpture, painting, and architecture?

12. Besides painting the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, what else did Da Vinci do?

13. What question do you have about Gothic or Reniassance art?
