1 Geography 2535: Introduction to Planning Summer 2013 Academic Article Review: Due May 27, 2013 Assignment Description Choose an article from an academic, scientific or professional journal in the field of community planning (or related to community planning) and provide a review of that article. A journal is a publication that is focused on providing information on new research and scholarly or professional work in a particular discipline. Articles in journals are often peer-reviewed (scrutinized by fellow professionals) and critiqued to ensure the advancement of knowledge is held to a high standard. An example of a professional community planning journal is JAPA (Journal of the American Planning Association) The following template is provided for preparation of the article review. Please feel free to copy the template headings into your own document and provide the required information. ARTICLE TITLE: AUTHOR: JOURNAL NAME: PUBLICATION INFORMATION: date, volume and issue, page numbers PUBLISHER INFORMATION: publisher (organization, association or society) Note – this information may not be available for some journals KEYWORDS: these should be keywords that define the major topics of the article and represents keywords someone would use if they were searching a data base to find information on the topic (examples: transportation planning, citizen participation, environmental assessment) INTRODUCTION: very short introduction to the article describing the major purpose of the article and may contain any conclusions of the author in 1-3 sentences ABSTRACT AND OVERVIEW: short summary of the article, perhaps one to two paragraphs which describes the topic area, hypothesis, research methods, findings, conclusions and recommendations if any.
