In this subject students explore the nature of ethics. Major ethical theories are studied and applied to a range of business issues, including corporate social responsibility, ethics in the workplace, and discrimination. The subject includes a study of organisational and diverse societal cultures, and an examination of Indigenous issues in Australia. Introduction The aim of MGT 230 is to provide students with knowledge and understanding of ethical issues that may arise within a business context, and encourage students to reflect on the nature of ethics, and ethical decision making. This subject also covers business and environmental sustainability, with a particular focus on how these issues also raise concerns in terms of ethics, and culture. This subject cannot cover all ethical theories. Students learn a number of prominent ethical theories discussed and applied in business ethics today, and consider their implications in terms of how they differ in the standards they establish for determining right and wrong. Students will gain a taste of important ethical issues and a vocabulary which will enable you to understand and engage in the discussions and debates central to the modern business environment. There are no assumptions made about the wrong or right way to reach ethical decision within this subject. Students are encouraged to consider the complex nature of ethical reasoning, and the diversity of perspectives that can complicate decision making in real life contexts.
