During your time in Munich, you saw Nymphenburg Palace, the Theatinerkirche, and the Asamkirche. You may write about one of them, two of them, or all three of them. Remember, Baroque art and architecture stressed the theatrical; it suggested dynamism, movement, and energy. In particular, it reflected the renewed vitality of the Catholic Church during the Catholic Counter-Reformation and the rise of powerful absolute monarchs in Europe. Baroque architecture often (but not always) employs sweeping oval shapes that project forward toward the viewer as well as recessed ceilings with paintings on them that give a sense of heaven opening above the viewer.
