Final Paper Grading Guidelines

Total: 100 points

A) Content/Information: 60 points
Did the student describe the area of development and define the terms adequately?
Did the student have a strong theoretical basis to justify the significance of their chosen topic?
Did the student discuss the role of culture? Why is it important to include culture when trying to understand this area of development? How may culture influence this area of development?
Did the student justify their focus on these particular cultures? What about these cultures lead them to believe that there would be differences and similarities that would be important/interesting from a theoretical perspective?
Did the student do a good job comparing and contrasting the two cultures (both the background of the culture as well as the findings from studies comparing this area of development across the two cultures)?
Did the student appear to have a good understanding of the literature?

B) Use of Reference 20 points
Did the student synthesize their literature review in a coherent way to support their points of argument? Did the student go beyond just summarizing one study after another but instead integrate the findings to highlight certain points?
Did the study discuss important directions for future research based on their critical evaluation of the limitations of past studies?
