childhood obesity
For this assignment, find three websites that deal with the same topic while targeting different discourse communities. For example, if you are searching for sites targeting different audiences looking at childhood obesity, you may want to think about what those different audience could be — the general public, parents, children, nutritional, pediatricians, etc. Then, analyze how the information presented targets its specific discourse community.
Once you have decided on your original topic, answer the following questions in a memo addressed to your instructor:
How are these sites designed to present information to a specific audience?
Are these sites designed primarily for one audience or one purpose? How do you know? Be specific.
Which specific interests, information needs, and attitudes toward the topic are addressed?
What similarities and differences within the sites help specify which audience they are targeting?
How are secondary audiences and purposes addressed?
