Common changes facing older adults
An understanding of human development cannot be confined only to children and young adults. With the aging of the babyboomers (those born between 1946 and 1964), there has been an increasing interest in understanding older adults (those who are sixty-five years of age and older). The challenge for many is eliminating the stereotype (common conceptions about a particular group) and establishing the facts about older adults. The National Institute on Aging has an interesting quiz that testsyour understanding of the normal aging process. Google the keywords “What’s Your Aging IQ” to take the quiz.
From your perspective, describe some of the common changes facing older adults. After taking the quiz, did your perceptions change or stay the same? Explain your answer. Why do you think it is important to understand the aging process of older adults?
