Guide for Writing Reaction Papers to
Reading Assignments
Instructions
Read the assigned article. Then write a TWO PAGE typed, double-spaced
reaction paper (in a normal font: 10 – 12 pt) about the article. Approximately half of
your paper should be a summary of the ideas put forth by the author, and the second
half should consist of your reactions to those ideas. Make sure to provide some detail
to your argument.
Late Work
Late papers will not be accepted. Be ready to submit your papers at the
beginning of class. If you are unable to attend class on the day of the assignment, you
need to e-mail your paper to the instructor before the class in which the paper is due.
You will also need to bring a hard copy of your paper to the instructor on your return.
Format
On the first page, in the top left hand corner, put your name, the due date, the
class name, and the assignment name. For Example:
Your Name
September 30, 2010
Art 101 or Modern Architecture and Design
Reading Assignment #1
Title pages, folders, etc. are not necessary. Also, do not fold the corners or your paper
to attach it together. Use a staple to attach the two pages.
Credit
Full credit will be given if you show evidence of reading the article and have
summarized it and reacted to it in the format required. Partial credit will be given if you
have not provided sufficient depth to your summary or opinion.
Plagiarism
No credit will be given for papers that have been copied and pasted from other
sources. This is considered cheating and may result in your failing of the class entirely.
