Whether you are a project manager who must lead a multi-cultural team or a marketing manager who must sell your product or service to an international market, you will need to consider how your message can be most effectively communicated to an international audience.

For this week’s Discussion, compare and contrast the key themes in the journal articles assigned this week with regard to cross-cultural communication, language and symbol design, and strategy for global integration or local adaptation. What are the most important factors to consider when communicating with an international audience?

In your discussion, also address the opening statements and other cultural references found in the article, ‘In Marketing Across Cultures: Are You Enlightening the World or Are You Speaking in Tongues?’, which may be construed as offensive by several religious or cultural groups. As a manager, how would you address such a communication from an employee that clearly has value but lacks cultural sensitivity? What might the author’s own culture tell you about his style of communication? Pay particular attention to the values that you associate with the author’s culture, and any implications of this assumption. You may wish to refer to some of the theoretical frameworks that you have studied in your explanation. What would you incorporate from this reading into your own leadership style and why?
