Analyzing your data
For part one of this assignment you imported and organized your data. Next we will look at some of Excel’s built-n tools for data analysis.
After importing data from the web you first wanted to be sure it would be properly formatted for data analysis. To begin this we replaced every “N/A” with “$0.00”. There is a tool available to make this process easier.
1. Put your cursor in the first cell, and go to Edit > Replace. In the Find what box put N/A. in the Replace with box put $0.00. When you click on Replace All, each 3
2. So far so good. The only problem is that we used a String data type in each of the replacement cells. The other salary figures are Currency data type. Fix this by highlighting all columns containing salary number information and selecting Currency as the data type. You will also probably want to have 0 places after the decimal point.
I need to sing the consistency song again. If your data is going to yield analyzable results, it needs to be entered consistently and to have the same data type. We just took care of that. If we really wanted to make this proper data for analysis, we would put the coach’s first and last names in separate columns. However, that is a fair amount of busy work, so we won’t bother with it now.
3. Because we will be changing each worksheet as we analyze it, we will first create three copies of the original sheet. To do this right click (control + click) on the Sheet 1 title at the bottom of your screen. Click on Move or copy… from the drop-down menu that appears. Another menu will come up. This time click in the box next to Create a copy. Do this process three times, so you have a total of four worksheets in your workbook. Double-click on the left-most sheet title and change the wording to “data”. We will change the other sheets later.
4. Move your mouse a little to the right and click on the first tab of a new sheet you created. Click on the Data tab in the green bar at the top of your screen….
