Assignment 2 – Data collection and reporting
The aim of this assignment is to formulate a report on whether age and sex affects
performance in the Stroop Color‐Word test. To test this research question data will be
collected via the Inquisit software program. The results of the experiment are to be
presented in a correctly formatted APA style table and interpreted using the questions
provided in the section of this handout titled Requirements and Grading – Point 3.
Due Date and Submission Format
The assignment contributes 20% to your final grade in the unit
Your assignment must be submitted by Monday 12th May 2014
– It must be submitted electronically through Turnitin, by 11:55pm (Melbourne time)
on the due date. Hard copies will not be accepted. The electronic submission must be
a single document in Word or PDF format.
Submissions MUST include a cover sheet that includes your name, student number,
tutor’s name, and tutorial time. The following statement must also be included on the
cover sheet acknowledging your understanding of the University’s assessment policy and
procedures:
“I declare that in submitting all work for this assessment I have read, understood and agree to
the content and expectations of the assessment declaration.”
The report must be a maximum of 1000 words in length
– Word count does NOT include cover page and reference list, but it does include the
table (250 words).
– Penalties may be applied for exceeding the word limit.
Participation in the data collection phase of this study is NOT compulsory. However, the
results for the table will come solely from the data collected from you, and the more data we
have the easier it will be for you to draw conclusions from it.
Aims and Learning Objectives for this Assignment
This assignment is designed to help you develop several key psychology research skills. It
will help you:
develop skills in accurately presenting data in an appropriate format,
investigate a research question with reference to previous literature,
apply the outcomes of the investigation to real‐world problems,
develop skills in the correct use of APA 6th style.

Requirements and Grading Guide

1. A Title/Cover page ‐ Mandatory

2. Table ‐ 45%
– Present the data in ONE table (the data will be provided on a separate handout).
– Marks are awarded for adherence to APA style conventions, accurate reporting of
data, and overall table configuration.
3. Questions – 45%
– Answer the following three questions (250 words each):
a) Were the findings of our study consistent with those of other studies? Refer
to previous literature in your answer.
b) Discuss some limitations of the way in which data collection was conducted.
How could these limitations be overcome in future studies?
c) Discuss one real world implication of the Stroop effect.
– Marks are awarded for coherent and thoughtful answers that make reference to
previous literature.
4. References – 10%
– Include an APA format reference section which includes ALL the sources you cited
when answering your questions.
