Since its establishment in 2003, Fresh Grocers has expanded its business from a single store in Queensland to over 40 stores and franchises across Australia. Integration of its business processes with IT has been one of the critical success factors for Fresh Grocers. A transaction support database system has been deployed in the company that provides an efficient and consistent order management systems and point of sales in all of its 40 stores.
Over the ten year period, Fresh Grocers’ operational database system has accumulated huge amount of data about customer demands, orders and inventory management. The new CIO of the company Sam Jones wants to look at using the existing data from the operational database to support decision making for management in order to gain competitive advantage.
Do you think a data warehouse is a good solution in this context? As the IT project manager at Fresh Grocers, you are asked to provide a brief review of the concept of data warehouse and present recommendations about how data warehousing could be applied with a possible architecture of a data warehouse if possible.
