Abstract
In its effort to foster a stimulating teaching and learning environment, Saudi Arabian tertiary education has provided an e-portfolio system for educators and learners. However, no research has been conducted to evaluate the diffusion of e-portfolio within its context. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of hypothesized model which includes perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, trailability, osbervability, intention to use and actual use on the lecturers’ acceptance of E-portfolio in the context of higher education. These above variables were extracted from TAM and DOI concept. The questionnaire for this study was adapted from Zejno, & Islam. (2012) and Lee, Hsieh, & Hsu, (2011). As such, the aim of this study is to examine the lecturers’ adoption in using e-portfolio system for their teaching and learning in tertiary education. A total of 222 lecturers from eleven colleges (Education, Sciences, Medicine, Computers and Information Systems, Administration and Financial Sciences, Pharmacy, Arts, Engineering, Community and Continuous Education, Health Sciences, and Islamic Law) were selected through online survey of a comprehensive public university in Saudi Arabia. The instrument’s reliability and validity were established through a RASCH Model. The hypotheses were tested using the Structural Equation Modeling. The findings of the study discovered that observability and trailability had statistically significant direct influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Subsequently, perceived usefulness had direct influence on intention to use and intention to use had also direct influence on use. Moreover, observability and trailability had significant indirect effect on intention to use mediated by perceived usefulness. Similarly, observability and trailability had also statistically significant indirect influence on use mediated by perceived usefulness and intention to use. Eventually, the results also demonstrated that perceived usefulness had a statistically significant indirect effect on use mediated by intention to use of e-portfolio system. The findings suggest that combining the technology acceptance model with the diffusion of innovation theory is viable to assess the lecturers’ adoption of e-portfolio system in tertiary education As well as the influence in the process of diffusion, adoption and implementation of E-portfolio.
