You are required to read the case and
participate in the discussion on the discussion board. You are at minimum
required to make to three meaningful contributions to the discussion board:
Your take on the GVV case, a response to a class mate’s posting on the
discussion board and one response to a comment that has been made to your
original comment. You need to integrate the course concepts that are relevant
to the case into your discussions as an important part of your grade will be
based on your integration of the course concepts in your comments. Postings on
the discussion board have to be meaningful, relevant and respectful. Points
will be taken for excessive grammar errors in your postings and irrelevant and
disrespectful postings

I played on a squadron softball team for my (Air Force) military team. In one important game the umpire failed to show, so the two teams voted on who should umpire. I was sellected. My team (Baker Flight), was playing our arch-rival Dawg (as in Dog) Flight. The score was tied at 6 runs going into the 9th inning. One of my flight’s best hitters came up with 2 men on, he hit a long fly that looked like a home-run. Unfortunately, it had a lot of spin on it as it flew over the fence. At an angle, it appeared to be a home run at the top of the fence, but hit the ground at an angle outside of view. By the angle, I had to guess whether or not it was a home-run, or a foul-ball. I had a clear view of it and, in my opinion, it hit the ground about 2 feet out of bounds, albeit outside of my view because of the fence. My team was screaming for a home run, but I hesitated for a moment, knowing that I was probably making the call that would lose the game. I made the call I felt that I had to. I called it foul, to the screams and disgusted disappointment of my team-mates. We did eventually lose the game in extra-innings and my team-mates never viewed me the same again. It was a tough call, but it was the right call.

I was motivated by a sence of justice that I have taken with me my whole life. I don’t want to win if I have to lie or cheat to win. I want to win because I deserve to win. I knew exactly what call my teammates wanted me to make, but I couldn’t bring myself to lie for the sake of winning one game. A game that, 20 years later would mean nothing in my life.

I’m satisfied with how I handled the situation. I feel that I kept my integrity, regardless of the pressure I felt at the time. What would have made it easier for me to make that call? If my team-mates had not been so bent on winning at all costs. If they had been more concerned that the best team won on the day, rather than winning regardless of talent and good fortune.
