Controversial Issue Essay (Individual Assignment) – Obamacare
Essay:
Each student will write his/her individual essay supporting or not supporting the chosen issue presented in the group presentation.
§ This essay is a research argument on the controversial issue. You must take a strong stand on the issue. The essay must have a strong argument thesis statement (claim and reasons “because”), provide background on the issue, and include a persuasive argument based on your research.
§ Sources may be shared among team members – but this is not mandatory.
§You may choose whether or not to support the issue. If your stand differs from the group presentation, you may use information from the presentation to include rebuttal.
Evidence/Research:
The information discussed early under the group presentation applies to the individual essay. Your sources MUST be reliable sources. However, unlike the group presentation, the individual essay MUST have a minimum of 8 sources.
Annotated Works Cited Page:
This essay will require that you will include an Annotated Works Cited Page, rather than a plain Works Cited page. The Annotated Works Cited page must include at least eight different reliable sources. In addition to the MLA formatted citation, each source must include an annotation, formatted following MLA style conventions, that briefly explains in a few sentences how the sources contributes to the essay. In addition, you will need at least one sentence that tells how this source meets reliability criteria.
