Do this activity with a partner, preferably someone in this class if possible but it could be anyone willing to discuss neuromuscular junctions and skeletal muscle contraction with you for 15 minutes or so. Describe to your partner the process involved when an action potential is transmitted from a neuron to a muscle cell and the subsequent contraction of the muscle fiber. Your explanation should include: 1. At least one diagram 2. An explanation of the role of Calcium ions in the process. 3. An explanation of the role of neurotransmitters at the neuromuscular junction 4. An explanation of the cellular events that occur during muscle contraction
