Freshwater life zones consist of three major systems: lakes, rivers or streams, and wetlands. Use the following images to see how environmental features within these systems can differ, ultimately affecting biodiversity. Freshwater lakes can differ in size, depth, nutrient content, and primary productivity. All of these factors contribute to which species can live in these lakes.
