Neurofibromatosis disease first
described 100 years ago, is one of the more frequent autosomal
dominant mutations in humans. Gene NF-1 responsible for
this disorder was localized on the human chromosome, cloned and
sequenced. Cytogenetic analysis of two patients contributed
significantly to the mapping of this gene. These patients, in
addition to having neurofibromatosis, showed balanced translocation
depicted schematically in the figure below. Using these pictures
determine:
A: On which human chromosome the NF-1 gene is
located?
B: What is the most likely position of this gene in respect to
the centromere of the chromosome on which this gene is
located?
