The LifeFitting Company, a distributor of fitness equipment,
wants to decide on how many running machines to order from two of
the most popular models. The company has developed the following
linear program to maximize its profits. (x= number of units to be
ordered from model 1 and y= number of units to be ordered from
model 2)
Max 50x + 30y
s.t.
storage constraint 2x + y <= 20
Budget Constraint 2x + 3y <= 24
Demand Constaint x + y >= 16
x,y >= 0
In revision, LifeFitting drops the origial objective and
establishes the following three goals in order of importance:
Priority 1 with a value of 45, Goal 1: Don’t exceed 20 in the
storage constraint
Priority 2 with a value of 30, Goal 2: Don’t exceed 24 in the
budget constraint
Priority 3 with a value of 15, Goal 3: Don’t fall short of 16 in
the demand constraint
Priority 4 with a value of 10, Goal 4: Make a $300 profit
1) Define decision variables and formulate a goal programming
for this problem.
