The question is (( Compare the two plants and two animals you
listed below and their adaptations (below ) . Could a single
species of plant or animal have all the adaptations you described?
Briefly provide a biologically defensible explanation for your
answer))) ???
There is two different plants with 4 different adaptation FOR
EACH :
Biome Banana trees in Tropical Rain Forest
Saguaro Cactus in
Desert
Adaptation1 (Banana Tree): roots
Adaptation 1(Saguaro Cactus) has increased parenchyma and
extreme roots
Function 1 (Banana) : They can spread underground
and spread vegetative.
Function 1 ((Saguaro Cactus): doesn’t dry out, not much rain,
helps in drought
Structure: Banana Trees have what’s called a Rhizome that are
specialized storage organs
underground.
Saguaro Cactus has a shallow root system but large. They store
water in parts of their body called ribs. Has more parenchyma,
which is the cells where plants store water.
Adaptation 2 (banana tree)) Ability to change color
Adaptation 2 ((Saguaro Cactus)) Spines
Function: This helps bananas survive in colder temperatures by
staying warm, since they need a warm environment to developed
fruit. For cactus, it protects from being harmed by animals, helps
direct rain water, cool the cactus, and insulate the body.
Structure ((banana)) by being a darker color they observe more
light and thus are warmer. For Cactus Spiny sharp spines all over
the cactus’ body
Adaptation 3 (banana) Big leaves
adaptation 3 (cactus) Produces thousands of seeds
and has to cross pollinate
Function (banana) Large leaves allow them to gather a lot of
sunlight to undergo photosynthesis. In cactus , Not very many seeds
will survive so by producing a bunch there is a greater chance to
successfully produce offspring. Also, by having to cross-pollinate
this reduces mutations caused by inbreeding.
Structure (in banana) Large leaves that perform photosynthesis.
In Cactus There are many ovules, produces extreme amounts of
pollen, the flowers stay open after sunset but close
mid-afternoon.
Adaptation 4 (banana) Reproduction
Adaptation 4 (cactus) Thick epidermis and waxy
coticule
Function: Bananas are perennial so they are able to survive many
seasons and produce offspring that will do the same. Cactus Thick
epidermis and waxy coticule helps prevent dehydration and
transpiration. Prevents transpiration except when its pores are
open.
Structure (banana): Have a structure that is capable or
reproducing year after year and surviving the
“winters”. Cactus: The entire outside of the
cactus is cuticle.
There is 2 different animal with 4 different adaptaion for each
:
Biome : Bengal Tiger In Tropical Rain Forest
Scprpion in
Desert
Adaptation 1 (B.Tiger in Tropical Rain
forest) Eye Sight
Adaptaion 1 ( Scprpion in
Desert ) Lack of water consumption
Function (Bengal Tiger ) They see better in the dark, allows
more light to reflect into their eye to see better in the dark, and
they have a third eyelid that helps keep the eye moist. Scorpions
rarely, if ever, drink water but instead they get their water from
their prey. They also hunt at night to avoid the sun and prevent
drying out.
Structure (Bengal Tigers) has a reflective retinal layer in the
eye and have upper and lower eye lids as well as a third eye lid.
(In Scorpion)Digestive system and habits
Adaptation 2 (Bengal Tiger) Extremely good hearing
Adaptation 2 in scorpion: Exoskeleton
Function (Bengal Tigers) They can pick up infrasound, and are
able to communicate over longer distances in the forest. ( In
scorpion:) Their hard exoskeleton is used not only to prevent from
being crushed but also as protection from the suns UV rays, prevent
dehydration, and be protected from the sandstorms and other
debris.
Structure (Tigers): External ear flaps that rotate
Structure (scorpion) hard exterior
exoskeleton
Adaptation 3 (Bengal Tiger) Hair and
coat
Adaptation 3 (scorpion) Metabolism
regulation
Function (in Tigers) Their hair and coat keeps the tiger warm
and protects their skin, it also serves as a camouflage from prey
by blending in with the stripes of sunlight through the canopy .(In
scorpion ) When food is scarce the scorpion can slow its metabolism
up to 1/3 the normal speed and survive on just a few insects a
year. Then when the year is better it can speed its metabolism back
up and come out of hibernation.
Structure (Bengal Tigers) Fur traps air to keep in heat and
color arrangement in stripes…( In scorpion ) Digestive system
Adaptation 4 (Bengal
tiger): Teeth and Jaw
Adaptation 4 in scorpion: Predation on its own kind
Function: in Bengal Tiger Their teeth and jaw allows for quick
kills, they easily tear through hide and animal flesh, making a
good defense and predation. In scorpion When times get real tough
and they can’t find any food, scorpions will prey on others of
their kind as a last ditch effort. This is a survival of the
fittest.
Structure (B.TIGERS) they have razor sharp teeth, 30 teeth,
rounded skull gives power to the strong jaw, and the jaw joints
don’t allow side to side movement. (In scorpion) : Instincts
