Using Problem-Solving in Making Ethical Decisions
Please read the scenario below. Use the problem solving
steps to make an ethical decision. Be sure to answer the questions
fully. Please use the back of the paper if you
need more space to fully explain your answers.
Scenario 1:
You are an administrative assistant to the executive officers,
the president and three vice presidents. You and another
administrative assistant, Sheri, provide the support for all four
of the executives.
You and Sheri get along well, back each other up when needed,
share the stress and laugh together frequently. The executives
appreciate the job you and Sheri do. The company has about 500
employees, and most of them work in the manufacturing plant. The
office includes purchasing, human resources, accounting and
shipping.
The four executives get along well. The product line is
successful and the company is growing. The executives are working
hard and enjoying life. The president, Jonathan, however, enjoys
life a little too much. He often goes out at lunch for a nice mean
and several drinks. The office gossip says that a few years ago on
his way back from lunch, he hit another car in the parking lot
because he had been drunk.
Sometimes his behavior after lunch embarrasses you and Sheri.
Jonathan can be loud and obnoxious and make inappropriate comments.
You and Sheri decide it is part of your job to get Jonathan into
his office as quickly as possible after one of his lunches. You do
not know what else to do. You are frustrated and have no one to
turn to. You know this is inappropriate behavior. Write your
