Second Vatican Council
:
Overview and background. This is the first part of a project that will demonstrate how the Second Vatican Council clarified the identity and responsibility of the laity in the Church and how the call is made to those sitting in the pews. In other words, the Council felt that there must be a continuity and lack of contradiction between our religious identity and our identity as a secular person. What the Council implied was that Christian identity goes all the way to the nucleus of our being and cannot be put into a state of short-term suspension once we engage in worldly affairs.
Students will write a 10 page research paper regarding the laity in the Catholic church prior to the Vatican II council the three areas to be discussed are: (1)leadership, (2)mission and (3)ministry of the laity.
