Project description
The writing assignment is based on Standpoint Theory and all these materials:
1. Following Jesus in a culture of fear
2. Nickel and Dimed
3. Hotel Rwanda (I think it is a film)
4. Privilege, power and difference
5. Ethnic groups in the United States: A short history
6. Standpoint Theory (a theory we discussed in class, I don’t have written material)
7. The Sociological imagination (for this paper, I can email you, let me know if you need it)
And the film: the Color of Fear
will be the focus, which I will explain later.
Clear introduction, thesis, body, and conclusion
the first one to two pages will talk about how these materials describe behavior of those with privilege who oppress others.
the next 3-5 pages: six ideas/ experiences from The Color of Fear and references from the above sources to back up each idea; social location and situated knowledge of
each individual will be incorporated in the discussion (do not use one character more than twice) – write at least 3 pages or more than 3 pages.
cite all souces and have a proper reference and title page. APA format. double spaced with one inch margins and is no less than 5 and no more than 7 pages (not
including title or reference page).

Consider the social location and situated knowledge of the men in the video of the Color of Fear. How is the social location of Yutaka, Victor, Lauren, Roberto, David
[Lee] and Hugh different from the social location of Gordon and David [Christenson]? (hint: the latter two guys are white). How are these men’s situated knowledge
different? How does the article about Ethnic Groups in the United States illuminate the perspectives of the men of color? How would Johnson’s theory of privilege,
power, and difference describe and explain the discussion between the men in the video? How might Standpoint Theory help you understand the experiences the men of
color discuss in the video? Refer to SPECIFIC information from the readings to support , illustrate and supplement your answer. Please cite – in endnote format – at
least six specific “ideas” from the video The Color of Fear and tie them in to EACH of the readings/other films in the above sources.
