Entering into the 2008 season, the NFL had six African American coaches and five African American general managers, identical to the 2007 season. Four new head coaches were hired for the 2008 season, all of whom were white. However, following continuous requests from various organizations, the NFL has extended the “Rooney Rule” to senior operations positions effective June 2009. Although the NFL is taking certain measure to improve its diversity standing, its initiatives are still questioned by many parties.
