Statistical Case Analysis Process
Statistical case studies typically follow a general structure with a number of side diversions resulting from discoveries made along the way.
Case Analysis Process
Provide a background and introduction of the case – “set the scene”. This ensures that the reader understands the basics of the case and what is asked.
Brief literature review – this, in part, is used to provide the reader with why this topic is of significance and importance to warrant this research or analysis.
Identify the research question(s)
Discuss the data
Number of observations,
How the data was collected, type of sample,
Unit of analysis,
Number of variables and how they are measured
Convert analysis questions into statistical questions.
Perform a descriptive analysis of the data (understanding the data)
Appropriate descriptive statistics are used to summarize the sample data – for both quantitative and qualitative variables
Identify and discuss unusual or outlying data points
Apply formal analysis procedures
Appropriate statistical analysis is used for hypothesis tests
Hypothesis tests are used when evidence is desired
Fully interpret the results
Develop conclusions and recommendations
State limitations, identify unusual outcomes and future analyses
