TRUST WALK
This Project is for my Management Human Resources class
It supposed to be a group project of the member of four people (3 males, 1 female)
Here’s the project:
PROJECT 3: TRUST WALK: (one report per team of four people)
Who: Your chapter team
What: Trust Walk
Where: An open space (Cal Poly Pomona would be an ideal location)
Why: To observe behaviors when trust is paramount
Project Details:
1. Read all instructions first before starting.
2. Select one teammate to be blindfolded; select the other one or two to be guides
3. Blindfold the teammate who agreed to be blindfolded – use a clean cloth, bandana, towel, etc. that will allow breathing but no eye sight! No peeking.
4. Use a well lit area for your experiment!!!
5. Have the blindfolded teammate not hold onto the guided teammate(s), but have the guides in
close proximity of the blindfolded teammate as a safety net
6. Have the guide(s) tell the blindfolded teammate to do the following:
Walk in a straight line for 20 steps
Walk on an uneven surface (like grass)
Step up (either a stair step or a curb)
Turn to the right and walk 10 paces
Turn to the left and walk 10 paces
Do an activity – like open a bottle or water, purchase something from a vending
machine, write something down on paper, shake someone’s hand, etc.
7. Remove the blindfold
8. Debrief with the blindfolded teammate – answer these questions
a.) How did it feel to have to unconditionally trust another person whom you barely
know?
b.) On a scale of 1-10, 10 being most difficult, rate the following: walking, turning,
stepping, and doing an activity.
c.) Did you notice your other senses being stronger when your sight was gone?
9. Discuss with your teammate(s) how this trust experiment relates to the workplace and employees. Answer the following questions:
a.) What does this tell you about new hires who have to trust others in the organization to
know what to do, when to do it?
b.) What does this say about the vulnerability of others? How should we use our abilities
when others are vulnerable?
c.) What does this tell us about team trust and how to develop and sustain it?
10. You may reverse roles and do the experiment again if time permits.
11. Document your findings, attach your field notes*, and draft a 2-3 page double spaced, 1” margin, 12-pitch font paper.
*NOTE: ALL field notes must be attached to the back of the report. (there must be four field notes from four people)
